bronze quality award imageWelcome back! If you missed any of the previous tips, please see the prior ACTION articles here. We are moving on to the next two questions of the Bronze application below. These are the two questions that are related to your Organizational Situation and are specific to your Strategic Context and are labeled P.2.b.#.

Criteria/Question #15 = P.2.b.1
b. STRATEGIC CONTEXT
SNF & ID/DD & AL

 P.2.b.1

GLOSSARY DEFINITIONS
  • STRATEGIC CHALLENGES: Those pressures that exert a decisive influence on your organization’s likelihood of future success. These challenges are frequently driven by your organization’s anticipated competitive position in the future relative to other providers of similar healthcare services.
  • STRATEGIC ADVANTAGES: Those marketplace benefits that exert a decisive influence on your organization’s likelihood of future success. These advantages are frequently sources of current and future competitive success relative to other providers of similar healthcare services.
  • SEGMENT: One part of your organization’s patient/resident, other customer, market, healthcare service offering, or workforce base.

These are not topics that are typically discussed in our settings on a daily basis. However, they are something that we must be mindful of and should absolutely be driving your center’s strategic plan. The most basic question is: Does your center know what their strategic challenges and advantages are? What allows you to compete in your market to bring the center’s best performance for future success? Conversely, what is there that may contribute to the center’s struggles? These are areas that comparative data does come in handy as it allows you to know where your challenges and advantages are, exactly, in comparison to those within your market, by your state or in relation to the nation. Comparative data was discussed in more detail in tip #6 for question P.2.a.3.

The response given here must include a response of two. One advantage and one challenge. OR you can submit more than a total of two. Simply be certain that they apply to your center’s present and future outlook.

CAUTION: If more than two responses are given here, then each of these responses must be addressed in your next question as well.

HINT: If character count is a concern for your center, please limit your response here to the two items required as it will also help reduce character count for the next question.

Criteria/Question #16 = P.2.b.2
SNF, ID/DD & AL

P.2.b.2

GLOSSARY DEFINITIONS
  • STRATEGIC CHALLENGES: Those pressures that exert a decisive influence on your organization’s likelihood of future success. These challenges are frequently driven by your organization’s anticipated competitive position in the future relative to other providers of similar healthcare services.
  • STRATEGIC ADVANTAGES: Those marketplace benefits that exert a decisive influence on your organization’s likelihood of future success. These advantages are frequently sources of current and future competitive success relative to other providers of similar healthcare services.

Shauna’s 411 for P.2.b.2
Taking your response from the prior question, now your center must expand upon all challenges and advantages stated and discuss issues as to WHY it is important to cherish and enhance the advantages as well as address the concerns of challenges to ensure future success and resilience. Please note, each challenge and advantage given in the prior question MUST be addressed here. If you gave three advantages and three challenges in the prior response for P.2.b.1, this response requires a total of six pieces and must address each one individually.
