Care Providers of Minnesota members received an email earlier this week announcing that Thomas (Toby) Pearson has been named the next President/CEO of Care Providers of Minnesota, effective January 1, 2024. Toby will be replacing Patti Cullen who is retiring at the end of the year after 37 years with the organization and 16 years as President/CEO.

Toby joined Care Providers of Minnesota in 2008 as their Vice President of Advocacy, with a strong public policy background, and solid reputation as a lobbyist at both the state and national levels. He has continued to grow in his skillsets as a negotiator, advocate, and strategic thinker; and brings to this position a personal passion and commitment for the long-term care profession. Toby holds a JD from William Mitchell College of Law, an MA from Northern Arizona University, and a BA from Saint John’s University in Collegeville, MN.

“After a thorough state and national search which began in earnest at the end of March, Toby emerged as our leading candidate for this job,” said Amanda Johnson, chair of the Care Providers board. “Toby clearly brings the vision, the leadership abilities, the understanding of our members and our environment and, a serious passion for this profession.”

“It is a tremendous honor to be given this responsibility,” said Pearson. “Our members are being asked to deliver the highest quality care and services with ever increasing regulations and limited revenue from public or private sources. My highest priority coming into this position is to find new solutions to preserving and enhancing access to quality care, by listening to the creativity of our members and translating their thinking into good policy for all Minnesotans.”

Pearson said his priorities will include continued relationship building with the Governor and legislators to ensure that every community in Minnesota is able to meet the changing needs of their older adults as the state’s population of older adults increases; and helping the members of Care Providers innovate and change as demands on their services and resources increase.

Pearson will formally assume his new duties as President/CEO on January 1, 2024, after a transitionary period with the current President/CEO. We look forward to the leadership of Toby as he leads us into the next decade—feel free to send Toby your congratulations to: tpearson@careproviders.org
