Home Care & Assisted Living Advisory Council meets
By Doug Beardsley | January 27, 2023 | Assisted living providers
The State’s Home Care & Assisted Living Advisory Council virtually met on Monday, January 23, 2023. The council was brought up to speed on a couple of topics, but the majority of the time was spent reviewing submissions for the latest social connection grants. The grant process had many improvements implemented since the inaugural batch of grants.
The following are highlights of the meeting:
- The Secretary of the State is still working on posting openings for the council to align with changes made in the 2022 legislative session
- A brief summary of Minnesota Department of Health’s 2023 assisted living legislative initiatives was presented
- MDH is working on developing a small assisted living facility provider workgroup to examine consequences of assisted living licensure laws and possible future legislation
- Council members reviewed a number of social connection grants using a scoring methodology grid
- Significant time was spent discussing each grant request and the scoring methodology; after a while, it was determined that council members should score each grant request individually (offline), and aggregate results would be tabulated; scores will then be discussed in the order they were received
As a reminder, each grant will be limited to $5,000 and total funds distributed cannot exceed $250,000. In addition, the following restrictions will be applied:
- 50% of grant funds dispersed to assisted living providers will be awarded to larger assisted living providers (licensed capacity of 11 or more residents)
- 50% of grant funds dispersed to assisted living providers will be awarded to smaller assisted living providers (licensed capacity of 10 or fewer residents)
- 50% of grant funds will be dispersed to providers licensed within the seven-county metro area (Anoka, Carver, Dakota, Hennepin, Ramsey, Scott, and Washington Counties)
- 50% of grant funds will be dispersed to providers licensed outside of the seven-county metro area
Grant applications are open until February 1, 2023.
