New Assisted Living Academy coming in March!

By Shauna Kapsner  |  January 27, 2023  |  Assisted living providers

Care Providers of Minnesota has a rich history of providing assisted living in-person certificate programs for managers and nurses (four-day manager series was held in the spring and the nurse manager series was typically held in the fall). In 2022 the program evolved to 100% “live” online webinars in the spring with a few overlapped topics, yet two programs. As assisted living in Minnesota has changed and evolved, we are finding different provider needs and Care Providers of Minnesota is heeding your call. Managers are now directors. Directors and nurses cannot wait for solid education tools once annually. We need to be setting our leaders up for success in real-time. In-person time for networking is missed and needed, and most topics directors AND nurses both need to know due to statute implementation and oversight/survey.

Starting in 2023, our new Assisted Living Academy is starting and will offer one certificate program for assisted living directors and nurses alike. This will be a hybrid program, with some education online, at your convenience. There is over 25 hours of recorded webinars to view as the participant’s schedule permits on the following topics:
  • Addressing complaints
  • Assisted living with dementia care
  • Bedrails
  • Clinical decision making in ALs
  • Contract termination
  • Emergency preparedness
  • Fire safety
  • Food code
  • Nurse documentation
  • Prescription management & assessments
  • Quality initiatives
  • And more!

To add to the hybrid format will be a one-day in-person networking and learning event (worth six more CEs) with “big” and current topics, such as the following:
  • Resident & family councils by Minnesota’s “new” self-advocacy ombudsman
  • Survey preparation & readiness, as well as the top 10 with strategies
  • Marketing & referrals with present AL challenges
  • Basic & fundamental reminders of Minnesota AL foundational topics: the whos and wheres of information and finding resources

This in-person date is Wednesday, April 26, 2023, to be held at The Park Event Center in Waite Park, MN.

In total, over 30 hours of education for you on the topics that are the most important in Minnesota’s assisted living sites.

Please note the following:
  • This program does not qualify for AL director in residency (ALDIR) coursework required by BELTSS to earn an assisted living director license (LALD)—that program is separate and can be found here
  • This program is for those: new to assisted living in the state of Minnesota, or current LALDs that need a refresher in the ‘hot’ topics
  • To receive your certificate, all online pieces, along with full in-person attendance is required

Registration for this program will be capped at 100 due to space availability. Registration will be open in March—so keep your eyes open for more!
