Be prepared—the new codes require facility maintenance, engineering, and administrative staff to do many things different then what was required under the previous codes. Avoid “K-Tags” as a result of not knowing new required elements of the code.

Robert (Bob) Dehler, PE, Engineering Program Manager, Minnesota Department of Health
Mr. Dehler is a professional engineer with 20 years of engineering experience including the last seven years at the Minnesota Department of Health. He replaced Jim Loveland as the Engineering Services Section Manager about a year and a half ago. Mr. Dehler graduated from the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology with a degree in civil engineering and is a licensed engineer in the state of Minnesota. He is responsible for the activities of the engineering services section that performs plan reviews and inspections of construction in health care facilities throughout the state of Minnesota. The section enforces licensure requirements of the State of Minnesota and the federal certification requirements of the Centers for Medicare/Medicaid Services (CMS).
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
- Understand the new required elements of the 2012 edition of NFPA 101 compared to the 2000 edition of NFPA 101
- Understand the new required elements of the 2012 edition of NFPA 99 compared to the 2000 edition of NFPA 99
- Learn how surveyors, using the new CMS K-Tags and survey procedures, will be conducting surveys using the newly adopted versions of the codes
