The Up & Coming Leader of the Year Award recognizes an individual who is new to the leadership role and whose actions show an extraordinary commitment to leadership and service. In 2024, Care Providers of Minnesota’s Recognition Committee selected Kristin Yang, assistant executive director at SilverCreek on Main. And boy…did we make a good choice! Here’s why!
Caely Boerboom, director of administrative services, wrote this about Kristin in her nomination:
Kristin became the Assistant Executive Director at Silver Creek on Main in the summer of 2022. Within her first year, she truly showcased what a great leader she is. She has contributed so much to our community in such a short time—from leading our Safety Committee, serving as liaison for the Resident Council, and spearheading many administrative projects (including Emergency Preparedness through collaboration with Maple Grove Fire on training for residents and staff), creating a new Resident Directory and working across departments on Capital projects. She was also appointed by residents as our designated on-site tech person because there have been many times she’s gone out of her way to help them with their smart devices, TVs etc.
Of the many great qualities Kristin has, one that shines so brightly—is her reliability and support as a team member. She is someone that everyone can count on. If there’s an event, she’s there to help plan, coordinate, decorate. If she has any time to spare, she is always asking the team who can use help.
Just when you think Kristin has done it all, she’s done more. Kristin volunteered to join our company’s Silver Advantage committee, which focuses on our mission of RESPECT along with employee engagement, inclusivity, and wellness. Through this she has created, scheduled, and coordinated events for staff such as: Chili cook off, Food of your Origins Potluck (an inclusive nod to Thanksgiving), Free Chair Massage, and more! She also helped create a “Silver Advantage” board in our employee breakroom that includes staff birthdays, staff work anniversaries and events coming up.
A resident had this to say about Kristin:
When my husband and I moved to SilverCreek, Kristin was one of the first employees to make us feel welcome. She learned our names immediately, invited us to participate in community activities and made us feel secure in our decision to embrace a new way of living. As you know many seniors find themselves face to face with the reality that living on their own is not in their best interest. That is a very scary reality to accept, so moving into a senior community can be overwhelming.
Kristin made our move not only tolerable but enjoyable. She understood our fear. My husband and I had professional careers and were scared that if we moved to a senior community, we would feel isolated from other professionals and unable to find our “people.” But, Kristin made sure that didn’t happen. She honors and acknowledges our past achievements yet helps us move forward and embrace our new lives at SilverCreek. She understands our fears and our need to be “seen.”
Kristin was presented with the 2024 Up & Coming Leader of the Year at our annual convention this past November.
Please take a quick look at what so many others had to say about this exceptional Up & Coming Leader!
And remember, if you know someone like Kristin, please nominate them for a Care Providers of Minnesota 2025 Up & Coming Leader of the Year Award. Look for information on all our award categories coming in March!
