Appendix PP survey guidance & tips

As you have heard, on November 18, 2024, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) released QSO-25-07-NH: Revised Long-Term Care (LTC) Surveyor Guidance: Significant revisions to enhance quality and oversight of the LTC Survey Process. The memo included significant changes to guidance in Appendix PP related to the updated regulatory areas. The changes will be effective, and surveyors will begin surveying based on the revised guidance, on February 24, 2025.

Over the next several weeks, AHCA will release action briefings related to the guidance updates. Two new action briefings have been posted to the AHCA Survey Regulatory page for review regarding the right to be free from chemical restraints and infection prevention and control. Included in the action briefs are outlines of significant changes made, along with action items facilities may take to achieve compliance in these areas.

  1. Surveyors will begin using this guide to determine compliance with requirements on surveys February 24, 2025
• Familiarize yourself with what consumers are being told—Consumer Voice Summary for Consumers regarding Appendix PP guidance
