The following is a message from Melissa Hampton, HFA–Quality Advisor at the Center of Excellence for Behavioral Health in Nursing Facilities (COE-NF).

As we kick off the new year, January is a month dedicated to raising awareness about substance use disorder (SUD) treatment, we are pleased to share free resources and training opportunities from the Center of Excellence for Behavioral Health in Nursing Facilities (COE-NF). These materials are designed to equip your team with the tools and knowledge tools needed to effectively support residents and families impacted by SUD.

The SUD toolkit offers a step-by-step training guide along with links to bite-sized learning modules and PowerPoint presentations as well as a facilitator checklist. This training can be completed independently online or as part of an in-person group session and typically takes about 30 minutes to complete.

SUD toolkit resources

We encourage you to incorporate these resources into your staff training sessions, team meetings, and care plan meetings to foster an environment where residents feel supported and understood.

If you’d like to explore these resources further or schedule a customized training session for your team, feel free to contact your Regional Behavioral Specialist via Amy Reeder's Meeting Calendar to book a time that works best for you.

Together, we can ensure our facilities continue providing the highest standard of care for those affected by SUD.
