Watch for improved language from MDH
By Doug Beardsley | March 24, 2023 | Assisted living providers
Once each month, Care Providers of Minnesota staff members Doug Beardsley and Michaun Shetler meet with key staff from the Minnesota Department of Health’s (MDH’s) division that oversees assisted living surveys. Sometimes we discuss the accuracy of surveys or levels and scopes assigned, sometimes we question if correction orders are being issued properly, we discuss future training topics, etc.
We recently have been suggesting MDH consider using improved (clearer) language in the letters they send that accompany surveys, as well as improved language sent when immediate correction orders are issued. The prior language was not wrong, we just felt there was room for improvement to better communicate “next steps” and to help providers know when they are in substantial compliance—closing out the survey cycle.
We are pleased that MDH staff have taken many of our suggestions and are in the process of standardizing improved language for those two documents. Improvements like this continue the “maturing” of licensing assisted living facilities in Minnesota, and we are thankful for the ongoing collaboration with MDH as we continue to improve the AL system in Minnesota.
