Decision-making for questionably capacitated patients in LTC

Decision-making for questionably capacitated patients in LTC
Frustration with challenging resident situations can lead to guardianship considerations—but is it the best option? When does it fit? Maybe more importantly, when doesn’t it? Join this webinar to better understand.

When working with older adult residents with neurocognitive, and related conditions, providers may turn to guardianship, hoping for an effective tool to address medical needs, general vulnerabilities, and to ensure safety. But this option is not always available or feasible, leading to discharge problems, fears of unmet patient needs, and frustration for providers and families. This training will provide an overview of guardianship, including legal requirements for establishing guardianship, as well as trends in law and policy toward avoiding this intervention whenever possible through adoption of supported decision-making principles and approaches.
