As the Director of Nursing (DON) for the Minnesota Veterans Home-Preston, you will provide key leadership and supervision in the delivery of clinical services by providing direction, guidance and supervision to staff who supervise and provide for the health needs of residents. The DON works closely with the Home Administrator to ensure clinical services meet regulatory requirements and agency standards of practice. The DON also works with the home's Medical Director and community-based providers to ensure clinical support services/resources are available and present in the home as needed, such as primary care provider services, hospice services, specialty care, etc. Other job responsibilities include, but are not limited to: • Supervise employees and ensure they effectively perform assigned job duties. • Plan, propose and submit budget requests and cost estimates to meet nursing department program needs and staffing standards. • Supervise staff scheduling to ensure work schedules meet residents' care needs, are fiscally responsible, and comply with collective bargaining agreements. • Perform Officer of the Day (OD) duties as assigned, which may include a rotation of on-call support to the home among nursing leaders.


JOB REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Qualifications • Current Minnesota Registered Nurse license with no restrictions. (NOTE: If you are not currently licensed in Minnesota, you must be able to obtain Minnesota licensure prior to hire. You will be asked to provide documentation of your licensure either at the time of interview or prior to hire.) • A minimum of three years of experience supervising nursing staff who provide direct patient care. (NOTE: A Bachelor's degree in Nursing may substitute for one year of experience.) • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and/or Basic Life Support (BLS) certifications. • Excellent interpersonal skills sufficient to effectively lead and supervise others and develop a work culture of open, accurate and timely communication. • Human relations skills sufficient to effectively direct, guide, influence and supervise a nursing department staff. • Communication skills sufficient to communicate effectively with others and prepare and present information to various individuals and groups. Preferred Qualifications • Experience working with Veterans and/or vulnerable adults. • Bachelor's or advance degree in Nursing. • Leadership experience in a union environment. • Experience developing nursing staffing plans using evidence-based strategies. • Experience and demonstrated knowledge of state and federal regulations related to skilled nursing facility care sufficient to lead a clinical team through survey processes. Additional Requirements • A Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) background check may be conducted on the top finalist(s) for the position. When conducted, a finalist must pass the DHS background check. • A Tuberculosis (Mantoux) screening (or chest x-ray) is required prior to employment. • Employment reference checks will be conducted on finalists.
